After Foot and Ankle Surgery

Generally; after most foot and ankle surgeries and depending on the procedure performed, the doctor would have probably placed a below knee splint immediately after the surgery. You will probably be asked to keep non weight bearing for the first two weeks. Definitely driving a car would be ruled out for those two weeks.

According to the procedure performed you might be allowed to use walkers to ambulate within the house. It is preferable to refrain from applying water to the surgical area during this time. The surgeon would then request your presence for stitch removal at the two weeks mark. In some special cases a change of surgical dressing and splint maybe required after the first week.

The instructions following those first two weeks will differ according to the procedure performed.
